Fiestas Patrias / Día de las Glorias del Ejército 2012

As you may or may not know, the18th of September and 19th of September are national holidays in Chile. This celebration is know as  Fiestas Patrias, celebrating these two dates. 18 September, celebrates  the establishment of the First Government Junta in 18 September1810, which marks the beginning of Chilean independence process. this date is also referred the Dieciocho, or "18th". To say when Chile gain its independence would depend on what terms you use to define the end, extended until 1821, when royalist forces were expelled from mainland Chile, or 1826, when the last Spanish troops surrendered and the Chiloé Archipelago was incorporated to the Chilean republic. A Chilean Declaration of Independence was officially issued by Chile on February 12, 1818 and formally recognized by Spain in 1844, when full diplomatic relations were established.

Ok, so what did I do....well I spent the day rebuilding my laptop as it had crashed and burned. Well for those of you that know me, no I hadn't been installing any bleeding-edge software.

Now on with History class. The 19th September is know as Día de las Glorias del Ejército, or Day of the Glories of the Army Day, or as Armed Forces Day. I was still rebuilding laptop and finally got it all up and running.

I went with our neighbors to the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos, The National Stadium of Chile.
Which is located in Ñuñoa, in Santiago Province,Santiago Metropolitan Region  or simply called the Metropolitan Region. They had a Fondas, also called ramada or chingana. Which are constructed as a temporary local for sales of food and drink and  during the Fiestas Patrias.

Here are some pictures I took:
