One year anniversary

Well it has been one year since I have quit working and moved to Chile. It has been exciting !!!

We are doing well, I do have to admit that there are things I do miss not being in the States. Some of the things I miss are,not in any order:

1. The Internet is not created equal... :(. There are some sites that are not available because I am in Chile, such as Hulu.

2. Which then leads to TV, can see soe shows from US, but do miss watching NASCAR.

2. Kentucky Fried Chicken. We can not get a buck of chicken, mashed potatoes and cole slaw. Here its
Kentucky Fried Chicken - Chile style http://www.kentucky.cl/delivery/familiares.html

3. I do miss work, well actually the people... you know who you are....

4. I do miss driving.. not quite ready to that here, am able to get around by bus and Metro.

Things I don't miss are

1.  All the crazy shootings going on, definitely not a problem here. Here it would be petty thief at best. We have experienced that, as Susan had a necklace rip off her neck.. Wasn't suppose to be wearing it to star with.... Her bike was stolen... we didn't have it locked.

2. Still getting use to how Chileans do business.  They are on their own time schedules, when have something delivered its from 0800 - 2100. Have some thing repaired, tell you three weeks, can be longer,

But other then this things we are getting along. Still working on my Spanish....

Well take care.

New water cut in Santiago de Chile affects 4 million people

Santiago de Chile, Feb 9 (EFE). - A flood in areas of the mountain range that muddied the river flow caused today a new cut of drinking water in Santiago de Chile, the second in three weeks, affecting about 4 million users.
"At first there were 1.06 million customers.'re Talking about more than 4 million people affected by this cut, almost 80% of the Metropolitan Region (Santiago)," he told Radio Cooperativa the Intendant (governor) in functions, Caterina Klein.
Landslides occurred in the town of San Jose de Maipo, next to the Chilean capital and nestled in the foothills of the Andes, due to an unexpected summer rain more than 4,000 meters of altitude, coupled with snowmelt and high temperatures .
The company Aguas reported around 20.00 pm (23.00 GMT) on Friday that because the rates of turbidity in the water down that sector would require the shutdown of processing plants that supply the capital of 6 , 2 million.
In total, the supply has been interrupted in 25 of the 37 communes (districts) in the Metropolitan Region, and while the company initially announced that the cut would last for 24 hours, today warned that the service could not be normalized until Sunday afternoon.
On Tuesday 22 January, another flood occurred in the same area also forced to shut off for a day, but this time the announcement was made at midnight and many neighbors awoke to the surprise of not having water available.
This time, the court Andinas, controlled by the Spanish Aguas de Barcelona (Agbar), has caused a minor impact to occur on weekends. Also, being summertime, many people are on vacation outside the capital.
Moreover, many buildings have tanks with capacity to supply water to their neighbors for at least a day, and tank trucks are provided for those who have no alternative.
The authorities today have held a coordination meeting in emergency Metropolitan Municipality.
"The turbidity level has gone down rapidly from 380 000 NTU (nephelometric turbidity unit), and we are now at a level of 28,000," said Public Works Minister in office, Lucas Palacios, following that meeting.
"We expect this trend to continue in the company to start processing the water in the coming hours," said Palacios.
He explained that the plants can begin to operate below the 25,000 UNT, although normally operate with a level of 5,000 NTU. In comparison, noted that the emergency occurred three weeks ago reached the 100,000 UNT.
Since last Wednesday the Metropolitan Region of Santiago is maintained with "preventive early warning" for Andean and foothill areas by continuous rainfall, despite the austral summer living this country. EFE

Fun times

Well as my friends in the US are weathering a snow storm, we here are experiencing another water shut off due to mud slide

Flurry in town near the Chilean capital remains isolated 60 people

Santiago de Chile, Feb 8 (EFE). - A flood in the area range from San José de Maipo, Chile close to the capital, maintains tonight about 60 people isolated and trapped several vehicles through mud and water, officials .
According to the National Emergency Office, due to bad weather affecting the Andes, several boulders of snow and mud were recorded mainly in Guayacán and Lagunillas, about 40 kilometers east of downtown Santiago.
An unexpected summer rain to more than 4,000 meters above sea level in the Andes, coupled to high temperatures and melting, caused landslides in several sectors of the small municipality of San José de Maipo.
Meanwhile, the company Aguas Andina reported tonight that according to "their internal protocols of emergency", has established a level of alert because turbidity rates in the water that goes down the sector and warned that several municipalities could face cuts water.
Later reported that the cuts will affect water supply to 22 municipalities for a while at least 24 hours, but gave no figures, the lack of the vital element suffer about two million people.
This is in addition to that which occurred on 21 January when about two million people in the Chilean capital, also of 22 municipalities, left without drinking water after a flood also occurred in the Andes.
Aguas, is the main supplier of water to the city of 6.2 million inhabitants and controlled by the Spanish company Aguas Barcelona (Agbar).
In previous emergencies, the company explained that the Maipo river that descends through the area caters to much of Santiago "and that when the river flow carries mud and water," the court is required.
Since last Wednesday, the Santiago metropolitan region is maintained with "preventive early warning" for Andean and foothill areas by continuous rainfall, despite the austral summer living this country.
This is in addition to that which occurred on 21 January when about two million people in the Chilean capital left without drinking water after a flood also occurred in the Andes Mountains. EFE / Archive
