Santiago de Chile, Feb 8 (EFE). - A flood in the area range from San José de Maipo, Chile close to the capital, maintains tonight about 60 people isolated and trapped several vehicles through mud and water, officials .
According to the National Emergency Office, due to bad weather affecting the Andes, several boulders of snow and mud were recorded mainly in Guayacán and Lagunillas, about 40 kilometers east of downtown Santiago.
An unexpected summer rain to more than 4,000 meters above sea level in the Andes, coupled to high temperatures and melting, caused landslides in several sectors of the small municipality of San José de Maipo.
Meanwhile, the company Aguas Andina reported tonight that according to "their internal protocols of emergency", has established a level of alert because turbidity rates in the water that goes down the sector and warned that several municipalities could face cuts water.
Later reported that the cuts will affect water supply to 22 municipalities for a while at least 24 hours, but gave no figures, the lack of the vital element suffer about two million people.
This is in addition to that which occurred on 21 January when about two million people in the Chilean capital, also of 22 municipalities, left without drinking water after a flood also occurred in the Andes.
Aguas, is the main supplier of water to the city of 6.2 million inhabitants and controlled by the Spanish company Aguas Barcelona (Agbar).
In previous emergencies, the company explained that the Maipo river that descends through the area caters to much of Santiago "and that when the river flow carries mud and water," the court is required.
Since last Wednesday, the Santiago metropolitan region is maintained with "preventive early warning" for Andean and foothill areas by continuous rainfall, despite the austral summer living this country.
This is in addition to that which occurred on 21 January when about two million people in the Chilean capital left without drinking water after a flood also occurred in the Andes Mountains. EFE / Archive
